Nancy Spottiswoode (BA HONOURS MUS. PERFORMANCE,
1975)
My Dear Dr. B.:
What could I possibly say that would convey my deep gratitude
for all that you've given me? My four years with you planted
seeds that are STILL blooming into artistic expression. You,
and you alone, are the reason that I am a fine teacher and
performer. I have regular flashbacks to our lessons together,
and find myself asking as I teach, "What would Dr. B.
do?" I find the answer in your inimitable style. You
taught me to celebrate life as well as music, and that the
two feed one another. You were always tough, but very fair,
and very loving! It truly was an education far beyond piano
lessons.
I only regret that I cannot be there with my peers to celebrate
you as you retire. My two small children are all-consuming
and traveling is, of course, difficult. I am presently on
leave from the University of California until our kids are
more independent, but I concretize regularly, and enjoy a
very satisfying career.
Dr. B., all my best wishes, thanks, and love are with you
today and always. I am indebted to you.
