An Appreciation
…. You seem always to have been seeking a more complete
understanding of the complex art of playing the piano and
making music. In the process, you have enlisted other seekers,
who have caught some of you enthusiasm for the search.
In my experience, part of your goal as a pianist and piano
teacher has been to make connections between piano music and
other forms of music, and between music and other spheres
of life, particularly other art forms. What has this accomplished?
It has directed a great many students away from regarding
the pianist as primarily a technician. Instead, it has encouraged
them to see their activity in a more significant way, as a
form of genuine human communication.
Thank you, Dr. Bratuz for you valuable contribution to my
life. I wish you many happy years of retirement. With love,
Douglas Robinson.
