The Feminine Side of the Musical Mind. Kaija Saariaho: L’amour de loin/Love from Afar.

London Opera Guild

London Opera Guild Events:

January 25, 2012 Wednesday, at 7:30 p.m.: Professor emerita Damjana Bratuz will give an informal talk on Kaija Saariaho’s opera Love from Afar, the COC production of which members of the Guild will be seeing on Sunday, February 12. Professor Bratuz, well-known in the Don Wright Faculty of Music, UWO, both as a pianist and a musicologist, is also famous around the world for her scholarly work on Bartok and other 20th-century composers. From 1996 to 2000, she was a frequent lecturer and recitalist in the Musicology Department of the Helsinki University. There she heard Saariaho talk about her work and ideas. Two years ago, she delivered a keynote address at Groningen University in Holland on Saariaho’s work, as well as on the work of two other women composers.

This very special presentation will be in the Davison Lounge, second floor of Bishop Cronyn Memorial Church (William at Queens).
